Dork Diaries ( 1 ) - Rachel Renée Russell

Tales from a Not- So-Fabulous Life is a fiction novel owned by eighth grader, Nikki Maxwell who joins the Westchester Country Day Middle School, where she was recognized a dork. She didn't fit in because she wasn't as fab as the CCP girls(Cute, Cool, Popular). She didn't want to be a dork but, she didn't have any friends. All she had was hatred from CCPs. Mackenzie Hollister, another CCP hated Nikki's guts. Nikki's new mission is to survive at school. She makes friends with Zoey and Chloe. She has a major crush on Brandon, but he seems to like Mackenzie. The school announces the Avant-Garde-Art competition. The winner will receive 500 dollars. Nikki's watercolor painting breaks on the final day! Will she win the competition? Will she ever be known for anything?

This book was full of comedy and drama. The story is really relatable and interesting. Rachel has done a wonderful job planning out the plot. The ending is a bit unexpected. The book is also very well illustrated with pictures. It is easier to understand with the illustrations since it helps with visualization. I will recommend this book to beginners since it is the first book in the series and has pictures for easy understanding. Teens and tweens will also enjoy this amazing teen diary fiction.
