The famous five consists of siblings Julian, Dick, Anne, and their cousin George with Timmy the dog. The five are at Captain Johnson's Riding School. George has taken dislike to Henrietta, another tomboy, who prefers the name Henry. An old blacksmith tells them the story of Mystery Moor. many years back, the gypsies had destroyed the railway lines built by their enemies. A family of sand miners. The engine went of track, and most of the family got lost in the thick mist. Never to be seen again. The gypsies still go there once a year. No one knows why. Julian, Dick, Anne, and Henry go exploring, while George befriends gypsy boy Sniffer who teaches her to follow traveler signs. The five decide to go to the moor and follow the gypsies. They must find whatever is hidden there.
