The Third Form at St. Clare's ( 5 ) - Enid Blyton , Pamela Cox

The twins are in the third form with their cousin Alison. Alison seems to be quite popular this term, with Fern and Rachael wanting to be friends with her. Carlotta is made the head of the form, and much to her dismay, Janet finds herself jealous of Carlotta. Janet doesn't miss any chance to hurt Carlotta, who has hit it off with new girl Libby. Fern is also Libby's cousin, who is consistently left out out of the 'horse talk' between Carlotta and Libby. This leads to jealousy and much unpleasantness. Rachel springs a surprise on her form by writing a whole play for the end of term entertainment. The term seems quite promising until someone starts playing mean tricks.

Pamela Cox's writing is very similar to that of Blyton's, and the series flows beautifully. The other side of Alison was very pleasant and like Blyton, Cox has imbibed a moral in the entertaining novel.
