First Term at Malory Towers is a fun read, all about school girls. The characters are well developed and quite relatable. Blyton has incorporated a message to pay full attention to your work and give complete commitment to a job. Each of us have our own personality and talent, and we must learn to use it the right way to make it big in life. I did feel that a lot of the characters were not exactly 'developed', but simply 'classified' into the classic schoolgirl tropes. There is a hot-tempered girl, a jealous girl, a mean girl, a timid girl and a naughty girl. Everything is very predictable, but it is the descriptions that are the soul of the book. The advice that the teachers give the girls are priceless. Darrell was one character who stunned me when I first read the book a few years ago. She has such firm beliefs and has everything sorted out. Yet she can get emotional for all the right reasons and win a place in your heart. This is a good place to start reading her books, and if you are an Enid Blyton fan, you will absolutely adore it.
