I've read this book before, yet I was somehow blessed with forgetting the entire plot, and all I remembered was that I loved reading the book and the reveal was too satisfying. So, when readers say, "I wish I could read that book again for the first time", it is literally what happened with me. And I love it so much.
The pacing, characters, backstory, attention to detail- all of it is done beautifully. I'd say it is the perfect amalgamation of women's fiction, romance, and thriller (emphasis on this) and could be great for readers of all three genres. Although I have to warn you that it isn't lighthearted fluff, of course.
MCs are so well fleshed out and translated into words on paper, it's hard to not get instantly hooked. The author uses dual POV to bring across both of their versions of their troublesome married life, and I can't find any fault with it. I did not see the plot twist coming (despite it being the second time I read this) and thoroughly enjoyed every second of trepidation. To add to the creepiness, it's all set in a remote village in a converted, deserted chapel with no network, while there is extreme snowfall. Talk about chilling vibes.
If you're looking for your next highly captivating 5 star read, I think this could be the one. And bonus points if you go to the audio version because the narrators do an awesome job of bringing all the emotions to life, particularly the deletion of lines in the letters between POVs.
