I can totally see the roots of the more recent books Katherine's written that have gotten a lot more traction. Like the present works, this story also has interesting characters and side characters with compelling backstories and a riveting climax. I was put off by the blatant misogyny which is an undertone for much of this book. The issue isn't the fact that the author has shown the existence of this male dominance because I don't doubt that it is rampant, but I didn't like the portrayal of this system without any criticism for it, rather just laughing and acting like it's okay. Glad I don't see this with Center's newer books.
