Love and Other Side Effects - Deidra Duncan

I was not in the least expecting this series to be continued when I read Love Sick maybe last week. Immediately requested this ARC when I checked for other books by the author. It wasn't until a couple of pages into the book when Julian and Grace were mentioned when I realised the Asher in this story was the same guy from the first book. And I easily loved this book a whole lot more than the first.

Asher and Joss are such lovable and relatable characters. They make for easy banter and as characters, they're genuinely flawed and so well crafted. The side characters of this story are completely different, which brings out a different side to Asher although we saw glimpses of him in the first book (and yes, I adored him even then). I've seen reviews that say the FMC Jocelyn was annoying or that the chemistry wasn't it, and though it might not be everyone's cup of tea, it was a banger for me. For the many ways in which the friends to lovers trope can go wrong, I think Duncan nailed the heartwarming balance between emotional intimacy and physical affection with the perks of

The book's got so much good backstory and engrossing conversation between characters that I was able to really enjoy. I'd say it's a very different vibe from the first book with the chemistry between Asher and Joss containing more emotional tension and a deeper intimacy. It is a very earnest relationship that in ways reminds me of a YA romance, but that I absolutely loved all the same.

Many thanks to NetGalley, MIRA, and the author for this advanced reviewer's copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
