I wanted to love this book so bad, but I guess the plot decided it didn't want that. Everything was utter nonsense. Yes, there are a bajillion tropes involved in the entirety of the story as advertised, but the execution isn't remotely entertaining. A major trope occurring in this novel is brother's best friend. BUT like it says in the blurb, it's not a cutesy, heartwarming version of it, but one absolutely overwhelmed with the weight of the death of said brother/best friend. Now this does make it so very interesting, but only if it was dealt with nuance instead of unbelievable dramatics.
Very quickly, I realized this book wasn't doing much for me and I developed a great dislike towards everything about it. The characters are not written well in that their motivations are unclear and their quickly changing decisions feel unnatural. I detested the way MMC Tyler was written. I could not get on board with the idea of him being remotely attractive. He's a man with few accomplishments, yet openly judges FMC Katie for her whimsical fashion sense. And Katie doesn't seem to have much to her personality if I consider the constant reiteration of her funky outfits as anything.
What truly broke this book for me and made me loathe it was the plot twist that comes way too late in the story that's too baffling to believe. There is little explanation to justify the grand reveal and the unsatisfying conclusion it left me with. In all honesty, I know I wouldn't have carried on with this read had it not been an ALC. And about the audio experience, I didn't think there was anything noteworthy about the narrators; they were okay but not exceptional.
TL;DR- While this book is weirdly hyped at the moment and a shockingly decent rating on Goodreads, you may want to reconsider what you find appealing about it since I sincerely believe it may be a waste of your time.
