This book for the most part doesn't take itself too seriously, which makes for great banter and just fun scenes between FMC Lydia Hanworth who wants her fiance MMC Lord Ashford to call off their engagement. I enjoyed every second of this entertaining read, and like always, I appreciate the somberness in dealing with some tougher themes, and of course, real emotions. The author does a great job of replicating some valid issues present in the time period, and these are perfectly depicted through the stories of the various characters. I couldn't help but root for both main characters and some side characters on occasion when the side plot gets interesting.
Perfect for someone venturing into any of the genres this book is an intersection of as it embodies parts of women's fiction, historical romance, and mystery. Every little trope in this book is executed very well to my satisfaction. This is my first book by the author and certainly won't be the last. Highly recommend this novel and I'm excited to read more by Sophie Irwin!
